Forget Pikachu, Pokémon will kick off its 30th anniversary celebrations with Jigglypuff in “special video” for the Super Bowl

We’re sure we’ll be hearing a lot from The Pokémon Company this year, as the massive franchise is turning 30 this month and already announced a major spinoff in Pokopia. It’s also reasonable to expect news on the next generation sooner rather than later, but first, Jigglypuff might show up at this year’s Super Bowl. Yes, really.

On 4th February, the official Pokémon social media accounts revealed a “special video” will be shown during the 8th February broadcast, and The Pokémon Company even gave fans a cheeky tease that you can watch below:

Jigglypuff appears to be set to be the star of the show, and while we’re low-key hoping for a halftime musical performance of sorts that puts everyone to sleep, the most likely scenario is that we’ll get a nostalgic edit that also hypes up the franchise’s busy future.

In any case, I personally doubt Nintendo and TPC have chosen to reveal more about the next batch of Pokémon games at the Super Bowl of all places, but I wouldn’t rule out a few quick teases and/or winks. That’s just speculation on my part, and I invite you all to theorize as well.

Meanwhile, the Pokémon Center site has also kicked off a big anniversary promotion with all-new 30th anniversary items presented as the 30th Collection. Pikachu’s head shape has been chosen as the main icon for the celebrations, with the number 30 replacing the species’ famous red cheeks. Cute!

Though we’re still waiting for official updates on what’s next for Pokémon on the gaming front past Switch 2 exclusive Pokopia, recent weeks have brought us fun little behind-the-scenes tidbits about the making of older Pokémon games like the original Red & Green and Sun & Moon.
