
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s marketing strategy so far has been all about drowning fans in video game references and giving casual movie-goers more cute little comedic beats to tide them over until the final release of the film. It’ll probably pay off, looking at the online reactions, but Nintendo and Universal aren’t done with the teases just yet.
This means the social media accounts are going into overdrive as we speak, and on 17th March, we got this short spot via X/Twitter that’s all about characters giving us a “close up”:
It’s a barrage of blink-and-you-will-miss-them images, but thankfully fans are doing the Lord’s work with their free time. One particular addition to the roster stands out. No, it’s not the cool moai from Super Mario Odyssey. Look closer and you’ll spot… a bunch of Pikmin!
They’re just standing there, and if you asked me about their involvement, I’d probably go with a quick cameo during a montage or background presence, but since ‘Super Mario Galaxy‘ as a concept can enable lots of crossover scenes, anything could happen! Hell, I was surprised when the Kongs had a major presence in the 2023 movie.
Right now, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is eyeing a massive $160m five-day opening weekend in the United States, which would put it in a perfect position to hit it big globally. We’ve had a Year of Luigi, are you ready for a Summer of Mario?
