EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 ended on a high note

despite its initial issues, resulting in a dedicated community sticking around in its servers over the years. In 2025, players took things to the next level with the celebratory ‘Resurgence Day’ event, which aimed to show the powers that be that there’s a big enough interest in more Battlefront and generated enough attention to be picked up by games media and industry figures.

This year, ‘Resurgence Day’ is making a return on 23rd May, and ahead of it, yesterday’s Star Wars-themed May the 4th celebrations have already boosted the player count on Steam. At the time of writing, Battlefront 2’s 24-hour peak sits at 9,383 on Steam alone (players are also active on the EA App and consoles), a marked improvement over the 2k-3k averages of the past few months. We have to go back to the early January post-Christmas period to find another decent peak of around 5,600 players on Steam.

It’s still far from the roughly 18k players that showed up on Valve’s platform for 2025’s event and the inflated 35,892 peak that happened in June (thanks to a summer sale and viral social media posts). But it’s already in a better spot in early May this year than it was at the same point in 2025. Again, this doesn’t include players on consoles and other PC platforms, either, so it’s pretty good for a 2017 game that spent almost three years struggling to really convince its audience. For reference, Marathon’s 24-hour peak is 13,191 players on Steam

On top of the official Star Wars Battlefront 2 servers, community-led and modded servers like Kyber‘s (which don’t stop adding new features and content) will be running hot this month, so ‘Resurgence Day’ also feels like the perfect opportunity to try something different if you’re on PC. It’s also worth noting that the Resurgence Day event happens the same weekend The Mandalorian & Grogu film storms cinemas worldwide.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm Games and EA remain silent on the future of the Battlefront series even if a desire seems to be there. Back in 2022, we were explicitly told not to expect a third entry from developer DICE, but what if another studio (and publisher) took over? The rights situation looks unclear, but never tell us the odds.
