Ninja Theory’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is the most-nominated game at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards, with 11 nominations.
However, the Cambridge-based studio’s action-adventure game has missed out on a Best Game nomination; instead the nominees are Black Myth: Wukong, Helldivers 2, Thank Goodness You’re Here!, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Astro Bot, and Balatro.
Astro Bot and Still Wakes the Deep received eight nominations each, while Thank Goodness You’re Here! received seven, Black Myth: Wukong six, Helldivers 2 five, and four each for Animal Well, Balatro, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Lego Horizon Adventures.
Hellblade 2 dominates in the remaining categories, with nominations for the likes of Audio Achievement, British Game, Game Beyond Entertainment, and Performer in a Leading Role.
Meanwhile, indie developers dominate the British Game category, with nominations for A Highland Song, Paper Trail, Thank Goodness You’re Here!, and Still Wakes the Deep alongside Hellblade 2 and Lego Horizon Adventures.
And of the 13 nominees in the performance categories (two performers have received a joint nomination), 11 are first-time nominees. Comedian Matt Berry is nominated for Thank Goodness You’re Here, after previous nominees (and a win) at the BAFTA TV Awards.
“Today’s nominations are a celebration of 41 outstanding games that showcase the very best of the British and international games industry,” said chair of BAFTA’s Games Committee Tara Saunders.
“They put game titles onto the global stage, unearthing hidden gems alongside the best-known game experiences of the year. A nomination is an incredible achievement for any team or individual, especially during what continues to be a turbulent and trying time for our industry. I extend my congratulations to each and every nominee for your incredible work, skill and endurance.”
This year will mark the 21st BAFTA Games Awards and will take place in London on Tuesday 8th April, with livestreams on YouTube and Twitch.
Last year, Baldur’s Gate 3 was the big winner on the night.
