Not wanting to be overshadowed by Overwatch, Marvel Rivals sets ‘Path to Doomsday’ roadmap, honouring all Avengers movies with brand-new content

Overwatch is back, at least for now, but that doesn’t mean the online hero shooter which kicked its butt for a while is going anywhere. Marvel Rivals continues to march onwards, regularly adding new renowned characters, maps, modes, cosmetics, and whatnot.

Now, we’re also collectively preparing for Avengers: Doomsday after Marvel Studios largely managed to win some fans back in 2024 with movies that landed closer to the MCU’s glory days. (Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 was cool too.) Considering all this, it doesn’t shock us to see NetEase getting closer to Marvel Games and the brand’s larger plans this year.

Revealed via the game’s social channels on 4th March, we’ve learned about the ‘Path to Doomsday’ content roadmap that will take players through all the previous Avengers flicks before reaching a big Avengers: Doomsday celebration on 18th December, the day the new event movie will try to conquer cinemas.

So far, we only know “all-new in-game content” based on the Infinity Saga and the capper to the current Multiverse Saga is coming, but the first proper batch of details won’t arrive until April. It must be noted we’re expecting marketing for Doomsday to properly kick off around that time based on previous Disney and Marvel timelines.

That said, NetEase and Marvel have already given us a first look at what’s planned for the event based on the first Avengers movie. Long story short: One player will control Loki with new, more powerful abilities (Infinity Stones included) as the Avengers (the other players) attempt to take him down without being tricked in the process. If the execution delivers, it could be yet another fun limited-time event for Marvel Rivals like past seasonal ones.

It’s only logical to predict NetEase and Marvel to revisit the iconic battles against Ultron and Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through future Rival events, but that would also mean finally adding The Mad Titan to the game. On top of playable content, expect more movie-accurate skins than you can afford to hit the game sooner rather than later.
