Nintendo says it isn’t planning any more Switch 2 price hikes

Nintendo, which unveiled the results of the first half of its fiscal year 2027 earlier today, has now said it has access to enough quantities of memory to manufacture more Switch 2 consoles.

As a result, the platform holder does not plan to increase the price of the Switch 2. That’s according to Reuters, citing Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.

Nintendo, which has so far sold 26m Switch 2 consoles, has already raised the price of the console earlier this year. The price hikes, which took effect on 1st September

in the US, Canada, Japan and Europe, saw the console’s price incre ase by $50 / €30 / ¥10,000. Although that was technically the first price hike for the console itself, prior to the Switch 2’s launch last year, Nintendo raised the price of Switch 2 accessories in the US

as a result of the Trump Administration’s tariffs.

The reason that would cause Nintendo to raise prices again is the same that already caused rival PlayStation and Xbox to do so: AI-driven, global memory and storage shortages.

PlayStation already raised PS5 and PS5 Pro prices, on several occasions. Xbox has likewise gone through multiple rounds of price hikes for its Series X and Series S consoles, with the most recent having taken place in August.

That same crisis pushed one of Nintendo’s longtime ROM suppliers to exit the business, opting instead to focus on the more lucrative business segments. ROM memory is used in Switch cartridges, though Nintendo hasn’t commented on the news.

Incidentally, Switch 2 hardware sales have been in decline for several quarters now compared to its banner launch in 2025. Still, Switch 2 sales are tracking ahead of the Switch 1.
