Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed show will reportedly explore ancient Rome.
That’s according to a new report by Nexus Point News, which claims sources say the TV show will explore a time period hitherto untouched by the game series, and feature figures such as Emperor Nero and Seneca the Younger. If true, that would see the series set between 54-68 AD.
According to the official blurb for Netflix’s take on Assassin’s Creed, the series will be “centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions – one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny”.
Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation was first announced in 2020. The long-in-the-works series is being helmed by Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing), who will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers on the show. Filming is currently reported to be starting next year, in Italy.
As we reported earlier this week, Toby Wallace will play a co-lead in the Assassin’s Creed series, which is based on Ubisoft’s games of the same name. Beyond that, who Wallace will play has not been announced yet, but according to the publication the upcoming show will feature characters different from the games.
