UPDATE 12PM BST: CD Projekt Red seems to have confirmed the partnership and film, with joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski commenting on X that: “We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time.”

ORIGINAL STORY 11:40AM BST: A live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film is reportedly in the works at Paramount Pictures. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura – a former Warner Bros. exec influential in signing the The Matrix and Harry Potter films, and known for producing the Transformers films – is said to be attached to the project, with CD Projekt Red collaborating.

The report comes from Deadline, though the publication had no further information to share than what’s above. We’ve asked CD Projekt Red for comment.

Believing that CD Projekt Red would venture into live-action film territory doesn’t take a stretch of the imagination. The company’s Netflix anime partnership on Cyberpunk Edgerunners has been a success, with a second series due to air this month, on 20th October

. The first season, released in 2022, was “fantastic”, Wes wrote in his Cyberpunk Edgerunners impressions article, and amassed considerable Netflix viewing figures.

Live-action adaptations of video game-based series are also becoming increasingly popular, with The Last of Us and Fallout particularly finding wide success. CD Projekt Red being involved with the Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation would also somewhat heal a wound left by not being involved with The Witcher Netflix adaptation. CD Projekt art director Pawel Mileniczuk called this a “missed opportunity” when I talked to him for a Witcher 3 10-year anniversary article last year.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red is working on Cyberpunk 2, a project that’s in pre-production, but with an expanding team – close to 200 people as of 31st July 2026 – full production doesn’t seem far away. The sequel apparently adds a second city alongside the iconic Night City setting, and it’s described as being like “Chicago gone wrong”.

Should the live-action film prove real, and be made, the questions are what story will it tell – the same as in Cyberpunk 2077? – and which actors will play the game’s well-known roles? The most famous of those roles is Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of Johnny Silverhand, a character who used Reeves’ likeness in the game. Could Reeves star in a film adaptation?

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2021, and its rocky launch has since become infamous. But CD Projekt Red did extensive work improving the game after release, focusing its efforts around a kind of 2.0 relaunch alongside the game’s “remarkable” Phantom Liberty expansion, in 2023.

Paramount, meanwhile, recently acquired Warner Bros., and has since reorganised into mega-company Skydance. Activision’s former leader Bobby Kotick has been employed on the board of it.
