The acclaimed James Bond game 007 First Light continues to find success, with developer IO Interactive announcing today it’s passed 4 million sales since launch, just under three months ago.

The tally was revealed on social media, with IOI thanking players for their support. The last sales update we had for 007 First Light was much closer to release, when IOI CEO and game director Hakan Abrak said the game had passed 2.7m sales in just over a week on sale.

It’s a resounding vote of confidence for the game and studio, especially at a difficult time amidst layoffs caused by the cancellation of the Microsoft Xbox publishing contract related to IOI’s other game Project Fantasy.

Naturally, 007 First Light’s success also strengthens the likelihood of a sequel in the future. However, if this were to happen, newish James Bond owner Amazon has suggested it would want to be more involved

. 007 First Light was self-published by IOI, if you recall.

007 First Light – a game that follows a young, rookie James Bond as he trains in the newly reinstated double-oh programme at MI6 – was widely hailed as a triumphant Bond adaptation. Our own 007 First Light review awarded four stars and called the game “a narrative tour-de-fource”.

Since its release, IOI has talked more about the game’s development, revealing that 007 First Light was originally more of an ensemble piece, and about how John Greenway – secretly the best character in the game – allowed the studio to celebrate British “restrained emotion”, as if that ever needed celebrating.

A Switch 2 version 007 First Light also appears to be on the way.
