When it comes to mid-range Android phones, we always have a few knocking about the house. Upon first look, the HTC U24 Pro is affordable, slim, and sleek-looking. It’s not a gamer-specific phone with additional gaming features, but it’s a phone well worth looking at for everyday use. I am going to be looking at this phone in terms of use for casual gaming as well as everyday mobile phone duties.
The Phone Itself
When it comes to specs, this is where I refer to the phone as mid-range; Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor powers this phone – which fits comfortably at the top end of that category.
It’s got a slightly curved screen at the edges, which I find to be awkward with some games, as the buttons themselves often curve on the edges, making them more challenging to touch or slightly cut off visually. This might just be personal preference – I also find it hard to get cases that work well with the curved edge and would never actually have a phone without a case.
The HTC U24 Pro has a brilliant and vibrant 6.8-inch OLED display with fantastic backlighting. The colours feel like they really pop when playing games and everything looks pretty stunning.
By default, the phone does have this weird, electric-razer-feeling vibration that seems synced with quite a few games. This feature doesn’t feel fantastic, I found it to be quite weird and surprising when it did vibrate, but maybe it’s because I am not used to that sort of thing happening in the games that I do play. It’s clearly something that can be turned off and I expect most people would!
Set Up
Transferring data from one Android phone to the HTC U24 Pro was quick and painless. After signing into Wifi, I could just use the included USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the phone to my old phone, transferring all of the data in very little time. The phone also charges with a USB-C cable, so that’s nice and easy.
You can password-protect your phone with a digit-based code or set up a thumbprint to scan each time you want to access the device. It also has room for two SIM cards within the phone, if that’s something you need.
The Phone Cameras
I feel like phone cameras are equally as important as how phones run. The front-facing camera has a default beauty slider added to your selfies, which I always feel is gross. For a freckly-faced human like me, it makes my entire face one colour and smooth, which makes me look like some weird doll. You can easily turn this down or completely off, which is good. Otherwise, the selfie camera feels good and takes pretty pictures!
The back camera, or should I say cameras as there are three in the front that allow for some high-quality pictures, are lovely. There is a Pro setting on the bottom bar, which gives you all sorts of stats on the photo you are taking. This can be useful if you are into taking pictures. There is also an AI feature, which allows your phone to correct photos (adding in people smiling if not everyone is smiling at the camera, for example) which can help improve your photos.
