Another day, another video game adaptation announcement. Joining Netflix’s growing catalogue of animated adaptations is a series based on Supercell’s mobile strategy games, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.
This series, which is currently in pre-production, will tell the story of a “determined but in-over-his-head Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war”.
Netflix has announced Entergalactic’s Fletcher Moules will serve as a showrunner on the Clash series. Moules previously directed the original Clash of Clans animated videos
Joining Moules on the Clash animated series is writer Ron Weiner, whose credits include the likes of Futurama and Arrested Development. ICON Creative Studio will then be helming the animation side of things.
“Clash has been a global gaming phenomenon for over a decade – filled with humor, action, and unforgettable characters perfect for an animated series adaptation,” said John Derderian, VP of animation series at Netflix. “We’re bringing all the fun, chaos, and spirit of the world of Clash to life in a whole new way. We can’t wait for fans – old and new – to experience the mayhem.”
Head of film and TV at Supercell, Curtis Lelash, added the team was “thrilled” to be working with Netflix on the upcoming show.
“Think epic battles, immaculate Barbarian mustaches, and the kind of humour our players know and love. They’ve been asking for a Clash series forever, and we’re beyond excited to finally say: It’s happening!”
At the time of writing, we don’t have a release window or any cast details for the upcoming adaptation, but will keep you posted when we hear more.
Netflix is no stranger to animated video game adaptations. Clash will be joining the likes of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft and Devil May Cry on the service, both of which were recently announced to be getting second seasons.
