Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 celebrates its one-year anniversary with… new haircuts?

If, like me, you tossed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 aside in disgust because protagonist Gustave’s hair wasn’t swirly enough, it may be time to return, thanks to a new update released to celebrate the RPG’s first anniversary.

But before we get into the follicular stuff, let’s pause to celebrate Clair Obscur’s other newly announced milestones. Firstly, developer Sandfall Interactive has revealed Expedition 33 has now crossed the 8m sales threshold, while over on Game Pass, there’s been enough interest that it’s officially the most downloaded new third-party release of 2025. So claps on the back all round.

And as an additional ‘wahoo!’, Sandfall has released a special Expedition 33 anniversary update on all platforms. It’s primarily about those haircuts, and you’ll find Gustave’s anniversary do over at the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, while celebratory haircuts for Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monococan can be found at Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tête.

There’s a little more to Clair Obscur’s v1.5.5 patch, however, with Sandfall also squeezing in a couple of improvements and fixes. As per its release notes

:

  • Fixed an issue where Danseuse outfit for Lune and Sciel made the character menu too obscur.
  • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to open a rest point in various locations when an in-world dialogue was playing.
  • Fixed collision issues in various locations.
  • Adjusted some achievement text for consistency.

“Outstanding artwork and glorious combat bring Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s bold, painterly world to life,” is what Eurogamer said in our four star review. And if you still haven’t been tempted to see what all the fuss is about after it snatched up a heap of Game of the Year awards last year (we went for Blue Prince, but it did make our #2), it’s currently discounted by 20 percent on Steam, meaning you can pick it up for £33.59 instead of the usual 4,199p.
