Battlefield 6 devs to fix “Secuty” skin typo, but five-pistol outfit was intentional

Battlefield Studios has responded after fans accused it of using AI to generate cosmetics after spotting a “Secuty” typo on a Battlefield 6 Season 5 skin.

The studio acknowledged “candid feedback” from players in a statement on social media, insisting it had “hear[d] your concerns”.

And though the statement did not mention AI – either to admit or deny using the generative tech – BattlefieldComm said that while the ‘Secuty’ typo will be addressed by a “correction update”, an outfit with five pistols is intentional.

“First, let’s dive into the ‘Secuty’ typo patches on the McNeil character,” the studio wrote. “A correction update has already been planned for the Season 5 Phase 2 release. However, we recognise that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement creates confusion and erodes trust. We are reviewing how we communicate known visual bugs so you aren’t left wondering whether something was intentional or overlooked.”

The five-pistol-touting Midnight Mirage skin, however, is described as an “intentional creative concept” and “a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an operative inexplicably has another backup weapon strapped to every spare inch of gear”.

“That said, we understand how this could look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies,” the team added, and, specifically addressing the typo, said: “We take pride in the craft of our world and our gear, and seeing visual oddities slip through is frustrating for everyone.”

The message did not say how the typo happened or address fan accusations that generative AI was used.

Season 5 launched in Battlefield 6 this week as planned, and though most of the new additions – new maps, weapons and vehicles, and gameplay changes – were well received, the season began on a low note due to those aforementioned accusations of generative AI use and a major hit to XP gain.
