Film and TV show adaptations of Arc Raiders and The Finals are in the works – and developer Embark Studios is collaborating with Chernin Entertainment to get the job done.

Variety reports that a number of production companies were competing for the rights to adapt both hit shooters, but Chernin Entertainment won out a few months after no-clipping into creepypasta land and stumbling upon huge box office success with this year’s Backrooms horror film.

The Nexon-owned Embark is supposedly working closely with Chernin “to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats,” according to studio CEO Patrick Söderlund, who also told Variety the agreement is the next step in turning both series into “deeply integrated transmedia experiences.”

“Arc Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards,” Chernin’s film president, David Ready, added. “Nexon and Embark have created visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell.” There’s no word yet on who’s directing, writing or starring in any of these projects, however.

Arc Raiders and The Finals join an impossibly large crowd of video games waiting to get the big/small screen treatment. Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Netflix penned a deal to make projects based on Sonic The Hedgehog, Crazy Taxi and the still-unreleased Stranger Than Heaven.

Despite all the game-to-film and game-to-show projects in the pipeline – there’s a lot – I’m quite excited at the prospect of an Arc Raiders adaptation. The extraction shooter’s massive and imposing robotic stalkers could make for some fun movie monster thrills if done right.

Either way, Arc Raiders has sold over 16m copies since its release a year ago. A free trial (8th to 12th October) is aiming to get even more people in the door, alongside the game’s biggest update yet, Frozen Trails. A PvE test is also scheduled for 13th of October to accommodate the shooter’s surprisingly friendly scavengers.
