How many fun little references has Arc System Works snuck into Deadpool’s move list in Marvel Tokon? Too many to count, it seems

Marvel Tokon is out at last, and players are diving in and messing around with the full cast of playable characters. However, one of these fighters is truly – and perhaps fittingly – unique among the cast.

This character is of course Deadpool, who possesses a move list packed full of references and easter eggs to other fighting games both new and old. Some of these references are true deep cuts for obsessed genre fanatics too. We’re talking about Street Fighter The Movie: The Game deep.

A video breaking down all the references was posted onto X by user Whisp90, which you can see yourself below. The video highlights references from Marvel vs Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Strive, Street Fighter 4

Deadpool’s game-winning animation is a callback to the classic Street Fighter 2 win screen, he even has a super which is a medley of attacks built into the structure of Street Fighter EX2 Plus’s Skullomania’s own Skullo Dream super. That’s a long, complicated sentence, and if it means absolutely nothing to you just know it’s a really cool, weird, callback to a retro gem.

Deadpool as a character is no stranger to the fourth wall, and video game developers working with the character have taken great joy in breaking through it. However, filling up Deadpool’s move list in Marvel Tokon with callbacks to almost 30 years of genre history is a strangely heartwarming way to handle the goofy character.
