A former senior writer from Sony Santa Monica has revealed the studio is working on “a new franchise within the God of War universe”.

The LinkedIn account that shared the news seems to no longer exist, but a screenshot of their profile, if real, suggests the team is developing the franchise beyond the God of War games we currently know.

The senior writer, who worked at the studio from 2020 until late last year, reportedly wrote on their LinkedIn profile that they had “helped shape narrative visions and creative direction and Sony Santa Monica Studio for a franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP”.

“Integrated story with gameplay and worldbuilding through scripts and narrative content, collaborating across disciplines to deliver emotionally driven experiences for a global audience,” the blurb continued. “Contributed to long-term narrative and franchise strategy.”

Given the original LinkedIn account has been deleted, there’s no way to authenticate the claim, but it does tie in with prior reporting, including news that Bluepoint – which was closed last weekwas developing a live service game within the God of War series.

Commenting on the ResetEra thread that shared the news late yesterday, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier wrote: “I suppose now it’s become obvious what I meant by ‘not a new IP but it might feel like one'”.

Earlier this week, Amazon shared a first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos in its God of War TV series. The picture showed Hurst leaning forward as he taught his son, Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, how to hunt. It’s an image that echoes the opening scenes of the God of War reboot, released in 2018.
