Red Dead Redemption 2 is now the fourth-biggest-selling game of all time, having sold 79 million copies since it debuted in 2018.
That’s according to publisher Take-Two, although you’d be forgiven for missing the news given the milestone was announced at the same time we learned GTA 6 had been delayed to 26th November, 2026.
Squirrelled away within its investor’s report, Take-Two revealed that the sequel’s success take sales for the whole franchise to 106 million.
That means Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold more copies than any other game released in the last seven years – including Elden Ring, Monster Hunter: World, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – and surpassed the sales of blockbuster games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, The Sims, and PUBG
It also eclipsed the previous holder of the fourth-biggest game in the world title, Mario Kart 8.
In fact, only Minecraft, GTA 5, and Wii Sports have sold more, with sales of 350 million, 220 million, and 82.9 million, respectively.
Back in July, quite out of the blue, Rockstar released an update for Red Dead Online, boasting four new adventures, Strange Tales of The Plague, Strange Tales of Modern Science, Strange Tales of The Bayou and Strange Tales of The Wilderness. It came as a surprise as back in 2022, Rockstar told fans not to expect any further major updates for Red Dead Online.
We thought Red Dead Redemption 2 was great, awarding it a Recommended badge, calling it “an astounding open world unlikely to be rivalled until well into the next gen, saddled by a throughline from the last.”
