Things are moving forward with the live-action Legend of Zelda film, which has now started production.
That’s according to a listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website, which states filming for Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda adaptation would begin on 4th November 2025 – so, two days ago – and run until April next year.
If this is accurate, this should mean we could hear more casting news in the near future. This in turn will allow us to piece together which of the games in the Zelda series the film team is adapting. If Sidon pops up, we know we are in Breath of the Wild
According to the website, filming for the Legend of Zelda film is taking place in Wellington, New Zealand. This is a popular filming location, with the likes of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films all heading to Wellington for some cinematic shots. Wellington’s Kaitoke Regional Park, for example, became Rivendell. Wētā Workshop is also based in Wellington.
Meanwhile, the Legend of Zelda project summary reads thus: “A live-action adaptation of the video game franchise. ‘The Legend of Zelda’ follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce – an ancient relic said to grant limitless power. To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artifacts that can aid him in his quest.”
Earlier this year, it was announced that Link and Princess Zelda will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason in the upcoming adaptation, which is currently set for a release in 2027.
As for the here and now, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is newly available on Switch 2. Set before the events of Tears of the Kingdom, this is a Legend of Zelda crossover with Koei Tecmo’s Warriors franchise.
