DOOGEE S200 review – “A potent smartphone for the adventurous”

  • Oversized ultra-high-res screen
  • Long battery life
  • Can withstand extreme temperatures, drops, and being submerged in water

After reviewing the DOOGEE V40 Pro a few months ago, I was incredibly eager to get my hands on the DOOGEE S200, and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. An absolute beast of a phone, the S200 charms users with its mecha design and oversized screen, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Unboxing the DOOGEE S200

The DOOGEE S200 arrives in a sturdy black cardboard box. The device’s name is shown in bold orange lettering in a large orange rectangle. Inside, you’ll find this beautiful, rugged phone snuggled securely within a plastic insert. Upon removing the phone, you’ll find a USB-C cord and a European wall plug.

However, if you’re outside of Europe, don’t worry. It’s easy enough to find a suitable replacement that will work with the provided cord. Take out the plastic insert, and you will find a screen protector, a yellow package labeled screen protec tor accessories, and a user manual.</p> <div data-ad-id=

The phone features a mechanical design and comes in silver and grey. Black accents offset the main color, resulting in a sleek, futuristic feel. It also boasts a large screen measuring 16 cm tall by 7 ½ cm wide. On the left side of the device are the standard volume and home buttons you’ll find on any Android smartphone.

The DOOGEE S200 Features a Mini Rear Screen

Similar to the V40 Pro, this model also features a mini-rear screen. Set between four camera lenses the mini-circular screen is found towards the top of the back of the device. This screen shows the current time and battery level while also tracking your daily steps. There are multiple screen layouts to choose from.

Just double tap the center of the circular screen, and then use the left and right arrows to scroll until you find a layout that’s to your liking. Finally hold your finger down on the center of the screen for a second to confirm the change. While it may not seem like much it allows you to check the time or your battery, more discreetly, which is a great way to avoid appearing rude in social situations.

The DOOGEE S200 is Built for Harsh Environments

Much like the DOOGEE V40 Pro, it may take you a bit to get used to the s200’s weight. However, it’s not heavy enough to be burdensome and the extra heft will make you feel confident that the S200 can indeed survive drops up to 1.8 meters as advertised. And with its combination of Gorilla Glass, Aerospace grade alloy back and sides and Dragon Scale architecture, that confidence is well-earned.

This phone can withstand extreme temperatures from as low as -30 °C to as high as 70 °C, making it ideal for adventurous souls. Additionally, the underwater and night vision cameras mean you can capture just about anything.

While I didn’t have an opportunity to test out the underwater camera, I was impressed by the overall picture quality. The night vision mode allows you to take photos in near-complete darkness, while the 100MP camera takes crisp photos. You can also turn on HDR mode to capture a more detailed image.

Gaming on the S200

I had a great time gaming on the S200. Thanks to the device’s Dimenisty 7050 6nm Octa-core processor and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, I was able to keep up with the competition in Disney Speedstorm and enjoy the fantasy MMO, The Legend of Neverland, without any lag.

Additionally, this rugged smartphone is powerful enough to smoothly run many graphics-intensive games like Love and Deepspace and Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat. The large, 6.72” screen lets you take in details you might not normally notice on a standard-sized Android phone. Combined with the 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive 1080*2400 ultra-high screen resolution, the S200 offers a vibrant, compelling visual experience.

The audio comes through crisp and clear, allowing you to stay fully immersed in gaming sessions or show your streaming. It also features a large 10100Ah battery, which allows for extended time between charges.

Spice Things Up with the DOOGEE S200X

At first, it seemed the phone lacked a way to search through your apps. However, type an installed app name into the Google search bar at the top of the screen, and it will appear just under the Google search results.

If you like the S200 but are looking for something a tad flashier, DOOGEE also offers the S200X for $459.99. Nearly identical to the standard device, the S200X features 512 GB ROM compared to the S200’s 256 GB ROM and comes in gold, green and black.

The DOOGEE S200 is a considerably impressive phone, especially considering that it retails for only $399.99. The large, high-resolution screen, Octa-core processor, and clear audio combine to offer a luxury gaming experience. Further, its ability to withstand drops, severe temperatures, and being submerged for up to 30 minutes makes it ideal for taking along on camping trips and other outdoor activities. Plus, the sci-fi Mecha design and 1.32” rear screen give the device a sleek, high-end feel.
