Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit review – “More Spirits to Help!”

  • A part of the Netflix Gaming catalogue
  • New bears, with new stories
  • Daily tasks to complete

Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit is a sort of sequel to Cozy Grove, both being games about being a Spirit Scout who needs to help bear creatures become more comfortable with their surroundings and helping them find peace.

Cozy Grove was previously released on Apple Arcade, but Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit has been released through Netflix Gaming, so you just need a Netflix account to play it. The game itself has a cute style to it, with the aim of players spending a little bit of time in the game each day, before returning to their day-to-day life.

Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit has a different story to start; you play as a young Spirit Scout who was going on a group trip when your bus has crashed. You cannot seem to find any of the other scouts, but plan on making the best of the situation by helping the island you’ve landed on. This island is full of bear spirits that need help and color that needs to be restored. You don’t have to play the first game to enjoy the second game at all, though there are some references.

This new island has all new bears, easier quests (in my opinion), and more to do each day. One of my main greavences was the fact that the game had only a small amount of play before you were done for the day and didn’t have anything to do. You do need to wait until the next day in your real life before more story and quests appear, but in Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit, this seems better balanced and you are able to progress the stories of these bears much faster. Helping the bear spirits is as easy as speaking to them and seeing what they need. Their quests are often about gathering items or helping the little imps that run around the island. It’s not difficult and often feels rewarding when you finish. Color then returns to the island as you help the bears and you get to learn more about their story. One bear I particularly loved was a box of crayons, that just had the most fun phrases and sayings.

Along with fufilling these quests, you can gather and use tools to collect items. A shovel is used to dig up holes, you get a net to catch bugs and get a water squirter to help clean up stuff that’s gotten dirty. The imps seem to really like when you clean stuff up, which is cute. There are sometimes some of the scouts that you road the bus with, dotted around the camp, that you can say hello to as well. This makes the area feel less lonely and more full of things to do. Collecting different items and handing them into a small fire on a wardrobe will grant you rewards and catalogue all of the items that you find. You can also decorate your camp, purchase items and get bird-pets to feed. It does feel like there is a decent amount of gameplay each day, with your camp’s fire reminding you to take a rest from time to time.
